Role: Certified Public Accountant

Location: Waldwick, New Jersey

Work Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM EST, Monday - Friday

Rate: $65,000 - $70,000 annually

(Salary is negotiable based on experience)

What you'll do

As a CPA specializing in financial operations and compliance, you will be crucial in managing accounting functions, from overseeing General Ledger to reconciling AP & AR and executing fiscal year-end processes. Your focus on GAAP compliance and tax planning will ensure that financial processes align with regulatory standards while minimizing tax liabilities for individuals and businesses. Additionally, you will provide financial reporting and analysis, conduct audits, assist with financial planning, and maintain client relationships, contributing to the overall success and compliance of the organization. Your responsibilities will include:

General Accounting:

  • Assist with accounting functions, including Overseeing the General ledger, Reconciling AP & AR, Preparing budget forecasts, and Executing fiscal year-end processes.
  • Prepare and update the Chart of Accounts.
  • Establish and execute financial management processes, including balance sheets, income statements, budget vs. actual reports, monthly burn rate and grant financial reports.
  • Monitor bank accounts and incoming and outgoing transactions.
  • Manage all accounting software, resolving accounting discrepancies.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement in financial performance.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial analysis and interpretation of results.

Tax Planning and Compliance:

  • Develop tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax efficiency for individuals, businesses, and other entities.
  • Prepare, file and review tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate advanced tax technical knowledge necessary for advising clients and developing an area of expertise.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to advise clients on potential impacts and opportunities.

Auditing and Assurance Services:

  • Perform audits of financial statements, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assess risks and evaluate internal controls to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of financial information.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and risk mitigation based on audit findings.

Financial Planning and Advisory:

  • Assist clients in developing and implementing financial plans to achieve their short-term and long-term goals.
  • Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
  • Provide personalized financial advice and guidance to individuals and businesses to optimize financial performance and mitigate risks.

Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and reporting requirements relevant to clients' industries.
  • Prepare and file regulatory reports and disclosures, such as SEC filings, to meet regulatory obligations.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients on compliance matters, including internal controls and financial reporting requirements.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor on financial matters.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, address concerns, and provide timely and valuable advice.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and value-added solutions to meet clients' evolving needs and grow the business.

What you should have

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Proficiency in financial software such as QuickBooks for financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax regulations.
  • Experience overseeing the General Ledger, reconciling Accounts Payable (AP) & Accounts Receivable (AR), and executing fiscal year-end processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct variance analysis and provide insights for financial decision-making.
  • Knowledge of tax planning strategies and experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for individuals and businesses.
  • Familiarity with auditing procedures, including assessing risks and evaluating internal controls.
  • Ability to develop and implement financial plans to support short-term and long-term goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to stay updated on changes in tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in ledger software is a plus, though not required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
